Mardi Gras King Cake

1/2 cup milk
2 Tbs Butter
1  (.25 oz) package of active dry yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2-3/4 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup pecans (chopped)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup melted butter
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 Tbs milk
In a small saucepan, scald milk, then turn off heat and add butter. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with 1-1/2 tsp of sugar. Let stand 10 minutes. When yeast bubbles add milk mixture. Whisk in the egg, rest of sugar, salt and nutmeg. Mix flour with paddle attachment adding one cup at a time. When the dough pulls together, add dough hook and knead for 10 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl and roll dough around to coat. Cover with damp towel and place in warm place until doubled in size (2 hours). When dough has risen, punch down.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place dough on floured surface and roll out in a rectangle shape (10×16), then grease a cookie sheet.
Next make the filling by combining brown sugar, cinnamon, pecans, raisins, four and butter. Stir until crumbly. Sprinkle onto rolled out dough, then roll up jelly roll style beginning at the wide side. Place the roll on the cookie sheet forming a circle gently tucking the ends together. Make slits in dough around the surface of the ring with scissors in 2 inch intervals. Let dough rise again in a warm place, (45 minutes).
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove cake to a wire rack. Insert baby. Combine confectioners sugar and milk until smooth then drizzle on cake. Decorate cake with yellow, purple and green sprinkles.
Cut cake and serve.
The guest who gets the baby hosts Mardi Gras next year!
Hugs out! Laura
